Earthworks and Site Grading Contractor on Vancouver Island

Every building pad, subdivision, commercial site, and industrial yard on Vancouver Island starts the same way: move the material, place it in lifts, compact it, and grade it to the design. We're a First Nations owned heavy civil contractor. Earthworks is the core of what we do, we self-perform it with our own operators and iron, and grade control is handled in-house. Here's what we deliver on Island sites, and how.

Earthworks services we provide

Bulk excavation and cut-to-fill. Mass earthworks for building pads, subdivisions, commercial sites, and industrial yards: site strip, cut and fill balancing, and material management that keeps trucks cycling and rework at zero.

Structural fill and engineered pads. Fill placed in controlled lifts and compacted to specification for building pads, equipment pads, and laydown areas, with density testing coordinated so the pad is proven, not assumed.

Site grading and finish grading. Rough grading to shape the site and finish grading to final design tolerance, with drainage built into the grades so water leaves the pad instead of sitting on it, which, on the coast, is the difference between a pad that lasts and one that turns to soup.

Compaction. Smooth drum, padfoot, and plate compaction matched to the material and the spec, placed in lifts the equipment can actually compact, not one thick dump that tests fine on top and settles later.

Aggregate and granular structures. Supply, hauling, placement, and compaction of pit-run, crushed base, and drain rock for pads, roads, and yards, with our own trucks.

Rock excavation. Island ground turns to rock fast. We handle rock excavation and build with shot rock, and coordinate drilling and blasting when the ground calls for it.

Ditching, drainage, and water management. Perimeter ditches, culverts, and erosion and sediment control, essential on Island sites where the rain is real and the water table sits high.

How we build on Island ground

We plan for the ground we actually have. Vancouver Island soils change within a single site: soft coastal fill, dense glacial till, hardpan, and bedrock a metre down. We read the geotechnical report when there is one and tell you our assumptions when there isn't, so rock and unsuitable material are priced as a known scope rather than a change order.

We build for water. Coastal rainfall and high water tables mean dewatering, drainage, and grading are planned before the first lift goes down, not after the excavation fills. A pad built dry and drained stays a pad.

We build to the design and prove it. Layout and grade control are handled in-house, so lifts, grades, and quantities are tracked as we go and as-builts close out clean. When an owner, an engineer, or an inspector asks what was placed and how it was compacted, the record is there.

We work around the community. Island sites sit next to homes, schools, and waterfronts. Dust, truck traffic, and site cleanliness are managed, and environmentally sensitive ground (shorelines, creeks, fish windows) is part of the plan from day one.

We mobilize fast. Our equipment and crews are based in Campbell River, so Island projects from Victoria to Port Hardy get a local contractor on the ground in hours, not a mobilization bill from the mainland.
